Meet Jen

Hello, I'm Jen. I'm accredited counsellor offering in-person counselling in Newcastle upon Tyne. I currently offer sessions on a Saturday, which is great for people who are busy and find it difficult to get to therapy during the week.
Much of my work as a counsellor focuses on supporting people through periods of transition and uncertainty. I've always been interested in the questions that arise when life doesn't quite look how we expected it to, or when we are trying to work out who we are and what matters to us.
I am particularly interested in working with young adults as my background is working with this wonderful age group.
People I have worked with have described me as warm, open, and energetic in my approach. As a psychotherapeutic counsellor, I won't tell you what to do or claim to have all the answers. We will create a space in which we can untangle problems, notice patterns, and explore your options, to help you find a way forward out of the stuckness.
When I am not working, you might have noticed that I love to spend my time outdoors, and I particularly love the beach. I am a true believer in the healing powers of the natural environment, and will grab every spare moment I can to get in the garden, go for a walk, or sit in the sun and read my book.
My Background
Professional Registration
In 2022, I gained my Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, and became a registered member of BACP. In 2024, after a two further years of post-graduate study in Psychotherapy and a total of 450 hours of clinical practice, I became a full clinical member of UKCP. I am currently accredited by NCPS. Throughout my training I worked in a GP surgery with a wide range of clients experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship breakdown, caring responsibilities, menopause, trauma, bereavement, and major life transitions.
My Experience
Over the past two years, I have been working as a qualified counsellor for University students. I work with students of all ages, but this means I have gained particular experience of working with young adults. I have extensive experience of supporting students from diverse backgrounds through issues including anxiety, family and relationship difficulties, academic pressure, identity, bereavement by suicide, and neurodiversity.
Prior to training as a counsellor, I worked for 5 years a Probation Officer and for 10 years as a Youth Offending Team Officer. This means I have a deep understanding of the complexity of the human experience. What has stayed with me most though, is that people are often far more capable than they realise and I continue to be surprised in my work everyday, by what people can achieve with the right support.
